Keynoting that approach is HMD Global’s invitation-only event on February 25th, directly before Mobile World Congress 2018 gets seriously under way. This won’t be the first manufacturer looking to get ahead of the MWC pace with Samsung expected to reveal the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus on the same day.
Which isn’t a bad thing - the association that HMD Global can gain by putting the Nokia flagship up against the Galaxy S flagship will immediately set the tone of the coverage. Assuming that it is a flagship device, because it’s worth nothing that HMD Global has not announced what it will be launching.
Thank to the numerical pattern of Nokia handsets, it’s a good bet that we’ll see a Nokia 1 and a Nokia 9 at either end of the portfolio. The Nokia 1 is expected to be an Android Go powered device for the low-end market, while the Nokia 9 will be the ultimate flagship of HMD Global’s first generation of Android handsets.
With 2018’s version of the Nokia recently launched, the updated Nokia 6 is also going to share the stage in Barcelona ahead of this year’s Mobile World Congress, and Forbes Tech will be covering all the news from the Spanish metropolis.
