WhatsApp users across the globe used the service to send a record-breaking 75 billion messages on New Year’s Eve 2017. The messages also included 13 billion images and 5 billion images. That’s beyond insane. The figures include messages that were sent on December 31st between 12 AM and 11:59 PM PST.
WhatsApp has also revealed the first most popular features of 2017. The list includes video calling, live location, delete for everyone, Status, and new album view for photos in this exact order. WhatsApp’s Status feature is basically an encrypted version of Snapchat Stories and even it has more than 300 million daily active users.
The Facebook-owned messaging service was able to hit this milestone even as reports spread of a global WhatsApp outage. WhatsApp went down for over an hour in several locations on New Year’s Eve. Despite that, it was able to handle 75 billion messages in a single day. That’s beyond impressive.
