CD/DVD Drive Contents Won't Refresh
Question:Every time I put a CD/DVD into the drive then I eject it tends to still show up as being in there even when I put a new one. The only way I can get it to read the new one is if I restart the computer every time. Can you please help?
Answer:
I would try to press the F5 key and see if it refreshes the screen
after you take the CD out. It may just be keeping the current view of
the CD until it gets refreshed. You can also try to right click the
drive in My Computer or Windows Explorer and pick eject rather than
using the button on the drive.
It may also be caused by not having the most current service pack installed according to Microsoft.

Your CD burning software may also cause this. Some software makes virtual drives that can cause this type of behavior. Nero Image Drive is one of the culprits. I have also heard of iTunes causing this problem.
One other thing to check is to make sure autorun is enabled for your CD drive. It involves editing the registry so be careful when doing so. Here is how you do it.
1. Click on Start, then Run, and type regedit in the Open box, and click Ok.
2. Locate and click the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom
3. To enable automatically running CD-ROMs, double click on AutoRun and change the value to 1.
