Desktop icons don't appear after adding password to user account
Question:I had put password for my user account and after that nothing displayed on my PC. When I started the PC and logged in with my password it opened but only to the background screen and no other icons appeared. So I would like to remove that user account password.
Answer: It may be a
case of something starting with your computer that is preventing it from
coming up all the way. Try getting into your account in Safe Mode
and see if that lets you in. If so then check your startup items and
disable anything you don't need running to try and narrow it down. You
should also be able to remove your password from here.
It may also be a case of explorer.exe
not starting. You can also try to start explorer by pressing
ctrl-alt-del and then going to task manager. From there go to File and then New Task, and then type in explorer.exe and click ok.
If you have another account with
administrator access then you should be able to change your user
accounts password by logging in with that account. If you boot up into
Safe Mode then you should see the Administrator account login since you
are running Windows XP.
