1.1 The History of SFUCHAS
The
idea of the establishment of SFUCHAS was the result of decision made by the
Tanzania Episcopal Council (TEC), in regard of the need for the contribution of
the Catholic Church in providing trainings for more Medical Doctors and other
health experts in Tanzania due to the available situation on the shortage
availability of qualified experts in the Health Sector.
SAUT
Main Campus, in collaboration with Catholic Diocese of Mahenge, Ifakara Parish,
together with other three institutions located at Ifakara (SFDDH, TTCIH and
IHI), put the basis on the establishment of SFUCHAS. SFUCHAS is the second
Medical College which is under the supervision of TEC after the Weill Bugando-
Mwanza. This is also the first Medical College to be established within the
Small City in the District.
In
its fourth meeting which was held in November 2, 2010, TCU provided to SFUCHAS
Temporary Certificate of Registration (CPR) number 30.
The
first students to be registered at SFUCHAS were from the MD1 (46). Those
students came from different parts of Tanzania and from both gender and
different denominations. In November 28, 2010, the Holy Eucharistic Mass was
conducted by the Honorable Bishop Agapit Ndorobo of the Mahenge Diocese for the
Beginning of the Academic Year 2010/2011 and the studies started officially in
November 30, 2010.
