Slow Computer
Question:Why is my computer so slow? I keep getting error messages like "switch to” and server busy. It even takes forever to connect to internet.
Answer: Unfortunately this is not one of those simple questions with one solution. It can be many different things.
The first thing to look for or course is spyware. You can run the usual Spybot & Adaware. You can find download links from here.
Next I would look for strange items in your startup by cleaning out your startup items using msconfig.
Another thing to look for are files
named req.dat & req.exe on your computer. They will most likely be
in your C:\windows\system32 folder. You can do a search of you hard
drive to see whether or not you have them. If you do then you want to
disable them or delete them. Check Internet Explorer first. Go to Tools,
Internet Options, then the Programs tab and then click on Manage
Add-ons. Look for an add-on called req.dat, select it and then choose
Disable. Click Ok then Ok again, and then restart Internet Explorer.
Deleting the files may be difficult
because they are most likely going to be in use and you won’t be able to
delete them easily. If you can’t delete them you can try this:
Open My Computer and go to Tools then
Folder Options and then the View tab. Uncheck Hide protected operating
system files and also uncheck Use simple file sharing. Click Apply then
Apply to all folders. The file is req.dat should be located in the
Windows\System32 folder. Right click on it and choose Properties and you
will see a Security tab. In the list, select System and deny everything
to it to hopefully remove the protection. Reboot your computer and try
to delete it again.
Another thing you can do is edit the
Registry and removed every req.dat and req.exe entries. DO THIS AT YOUR
OWN RISK AND BACKUP THE REGISTRY FIRST.
It’s always dangerous to delete files
and registry entries unless you know for sure that it won’t hurt
anything. These suggestions are not guaranteed to work or cause further
damage to your system.
