HMD Global, the company behind Nokia's comeback into the smartphone world, has confirmed that the Nokia 3 will skip the incremental Android 7.1.2 update and receive Android 8.0 Oreo directly. While the Nokia 8 has already begun receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo update, the Nokia 3 is set to be updated to the latest flavour of Android very soon.

HMD Global's Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvokas confirmed the news via a Tweet. He wrote - "Thanks! We will transition straight to Oreo" in a response to a user's query regarding the Nokia 3's software update roadmap. HMD Global also skipped the Android 7.1.2 Nougat update on the Nokia 8.

Announced alongside the Nokia 6 and Nokia 5, the Nokia 3 was the first Nokia Android smartphone to go on sale in India. The Nokia 3 retails for Rs 9,499 (available for around Rs 8,700 on e-commerce platforms) and comes with a premium design, solid build quality and a 100 percent stock version of Android devoid of bloat and overlays.

The Nokia 3 has a polycarbonate back paired to a metal frame for rigidity. It is powered by the MediaTek MT6737 processor clocked at 1.3GHz paired with 2GB of RAM, the Mali T720 GPU and a 2,650mAh battery. It has 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded via a microSD card.

On the imaging front, the Nokia 3 has a 8MP rear camera with an aperture of f/2.0 and an LED flash paired with a 8MP sensor at the front for selfies. In our review, we found the Nokia 3 to be a solid, if underpowered smartphone that looks good, has solid build quality and comes with a refined software package. On the flipside, the Nokia 3's cameras are average and the battery life, while decent, is not mind-blowing.
