Apple uses chips and processors from a number of companies, including Qualcomm, Broadcom, Arm and Intel. Intel, which gets about 5 per cent of its revenue from the company, has been supplying chips to Apple since 2005.
Neither Apple nor Intel would comment but Apple has been looking to bring more of the technology in its devices in-house. The company has been designing its own iPhone processors since the release of the iPhone 4 in 2010 and has steadily increased the amount of chip work it handles itself.
