Online security is becoming an increasingly important area for businesses of every size. And one of the most basic forms of online security entails switching to HTTPS hosting.

Of course there are loads of factors to consider, but aside from the advantages of presenting a safe and secure website to your visitors, switching to secure HTTPS hosting (as opposed to HTTP) is good for business. Along with the reasurrance it gives your visitors, HTTPS is actually a stated Google ranking factor.

And, in the coming years, the question isn't going to be so much whether you need to migrate to HTTPS, as when you are going to switch.

If you want visitors to access your blog over HTTPS, you can turn on HTTPS and HTTPS redirect.

There are three main benefits to using HTTPS instead of HTTP to access your blog:
  • It helps check that your visitors open the correct website and aren’t being redirected to a malicious site.
  • It helps detect if an attacker tries to change any data sent from Blogger to the visitor.
  • It adds security measures that make it harder for other people to listen to your visitors’ conversations, track their activities, or steal their information.
To turn on HTTPS for your custom domain blog:
  1. Sign in to Blogger.
  2. In the top left, click the Down arrow .
  3. Select the blog to update.
  4. In the left menu, click Settings Basic.
  5. On the right, under "HTTPS" and "HTTPS Availability," select Yes.

Note: If you don't use a custom domain for your blog, HTTPS is automatically turned on for your blog and the HTTPS setting is hidden.
Turn on HTTPS redirect

When you enable HTTPS redirect, visitors always reach the encrypted version of your blog at https://<your-blog>.blogspot.com.
  1. Sign in to Blogger.
  2. In the top left, click the Down arrow .
  3. Select the blog to update.
  4. In the left menu, click Settings Basic.
  5. On the right, under "HTTPS" and "HTTPS Redirect," select Yes.
