The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 was part of a huge renaissance the South Korean tech giant enjoyed last year after the Note 7 exploding battery fiasco.
However, some Note 8 users have reported a worrying bug with the device which kicks in once the battery reaches too low.
Last December, Note 8 users reported the problem - saying the smartphone could not be switched back on after the battery dropped to zero.
The same Galaxy Note 8 units failed to charge – even when plugged in.
That meant it was impossible to revive the handset after the battery ran out of power.
Samsung confirmed the Note 8 issue but said the problem only affected a small number of owners, according to German language site PCWelt (via BGR).
The statement said: “Samsung is taking all reports of this kind seriously, we only received a very small number of customer inquiries that could be linked to charge management, and unfortunately we can only comment on the matter further.”
Samsung has not released a fix for the Note 8 battery issue yet, but there is a third-party solution available.
The Deep Discharge Protection Tool warns Note 8 users when their battery is starting to drop.
And it shuts the phone off entirely when the battery hits 12 per cent, giving you plenty of charge left to play with.
The tool gives users two noisy alerts as the battery starts to drop, which developers said is loud enough to wake Note 8 owners up when they’re asleep.
The fix was outlined by Lifehacker, but currently Note 8 fans need to root their device to use the Deep Discharge Protection Tool.
The flip side to this is rooting your device does come with risks - it can void your warranty and disable Samsung Pay as well as the Secure Folder.
The developers of the Deep Discharge Protection Tool have said they are working to release it for non-rooted Samsung phones also.
And Samsung will hopefully also release an official fix soon, potentially in its Android Oreo 8.0 update.
So it may be best playing the waiting game, and keep a close eye on your Note 8 battery levels for now.
The news comes after a Reddit user recently posted screenshots of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 running Android Oreo 8.0.
The pictures suggest Samsung has started seeding Android Oreo as a test.
And if all goes smoothly, Samsung will surely begin their wider rollout soon.
Also on Reddit a change log for the upcoming Samsung update was published, showing what else is in store for users.
The update, labelled R16NW.N950FXXU2CRA1.DM, will bring changes to the keyboard, picture in picture support and a new Android security patch.
While it’s unclear how many Note 8 handsets the Android Oreo update has landed on, it does suggest the big patch is in its final stages before launch.
Which would mean an Android Oreo release date for Note 8 is fast approaching.
It’s rumoured that both the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the Note 8 will get the Android Oreo update before the end of this month.
