Snapchat is testing an Instagram-style feature that lets you tag other users in your Stories

Snapchat is taking inspiration from Instagram for its latest feature.
The company is testing out a new tool that lets users tag anyone in photos and videos that are posted to Snapchat Stories.

To tag someone, type out a username in the text field and then swipe up on the 'more' option located at the bottom of the screen, which will open a section titled 'People,' displaying the user's information.

It's unclear when the feature will roll out officially, but Snapchat confirmed to TechCrunch that 'we're testing this,' without giving more details.

For now, tagging seems to be appearing on the app for some users.

The feature also allows you to include the tagged person's Bitmoji and a QR code button that lets other users follow them.

When someone views your Snap, they can also see more information about the tagged user by swiping up on the 'more' option.

If you tag someone in a post, you will get a notification saying that someone has 'mentioned you in their Story.'

As TechCrunch notes, tagging other users serves as a new way to communicate with friends on the app, while spotlighting your favorite Snapchat users.

By testing the new feature, Snapchat is joining other social media platforms that let people tag other users in their posts.

Facebook was one of the first to allow users to tag other accounts in photos uploaded to the site.

In 2016, Facebook-owned Instagram added mentions to Stories, which let users tag other accounts by typing the '@' sign.

Tapping on the username prompts a pop-up that will take them to that profile.

Snapchat has been busy adding a slew of other features over the last few weeks.

Last month, the company added a 'Tabs' feature to the app that separates Snaps into Group Chats and active Stories.

On top of that, Snapchat added GIFs to the app that will let users include animated stickers on their photos and videos.

Users can add multiple GIFs to their Snap and add the animated stickers to videos by pressing and holding on the sticker to pin it to something in their Snap.

It comes after Snapchat completely overhauled the app's design last November, by separating the app between 'social' and 'media' in an effort to make the app more personalized and easy to use.
